Dubai (RTA)
You book the knowledge test after completing the theory lectures: 8 hours for light vehicles and motorcycles, according to RTA.
Ways to book:
- RTA website: log in with UAE Pass, your Emirates ID or passport, confirm the code sent to your phone, choose an appointment and language, and pay. Confirmation arrives by SMS and email.
- RTA Dubai app or Dubai Now app (Dubai Now needs UAE Pass).
- Your driving institute.
Fees (RTA): knowledge test AED 200 + Knowledge and Innovation AED 20 = AED 220. Optional remote interpretation, where an interpreter translates the questions by video call, is AED 420.
Before test day:
- Arrive 30 minutes early to confirm your attendance.
- You can reschedule until 24 hours before the test. An earlier date costs AED 320.
- If you miss the test, you must book again and pay the fee again.
- Your training file is suspended if you don't take one of your tests within 6 months of your last appointment.
Sharjah (SDI)
In Sharjah you register with the Sharjah Driving Institute at a branch or online at sdi.ae. The theory test is 25 questions in 20 minutes, with 18 correct needed, in Arabic, English or Urdu. The first attempt is included in SDI's course fee; each retake costs AED 50 (see fees).
Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi's driving-test appointments are booked, changed and postponed through TAMM (the "Book Driving Test Date", "Changing Theoretical or Practical Driving Test Appointment" and "Postpone a Driving Test Appointment" services). Training and tests run through your driving school. We haven't found an authority page that publishes Abu Dhabi's test fees or format, so check TAMM or your school for current details.
